"I am hugely honored to be appointed Artistic Director of NTI, an extraordinary training ground for undergraduate students with a long-standing commitment to rigor and risk-taking. Education has been at the core of my career in theatre, and it is a joy to be at an institution with an educational philosophy to which I so firmly adhere: that theatre at its core is about collaboration and dialogue; that the spirit of the ensemble is essential for nurturing new theatre; and that study of global perspectives is a necessary part of an excellent education. The O’Neill Center’s long tradition of supporting young artists and new work is an inspritation to me. I look forward to working closely with Preston Whiteway, the Board, and the entire NTI staff as we build on this tradition, expand NTI’s programming, collaborate with more theatres nationally and internationally, and lead NTI into the future as we energize and cultivate the next generation of theater artists."

NTI ALUMNI
NTI was the most transformative experience of my life.
Jennifer Garner, NTI Fall ‘93
Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning actress

Ever since its inaugural semester, of which I was a part, NTI has laid an important foundation for future theater professionals. As a complement to a liberal arts college education, NTI prepares students for the rewards and challenges of life in the professional theater. I still remember fondly the mentors who helped me to discover my talents and encouraged me to forge a career in the theater.
Barry Grove, NTI ‘70
Executive Producer, Manhattan Theatre Club

NTI is inherently difficult -- being creative (especially constantly) is difficult.
Maria Goyanes, NTI Fall ‘99
Artistic Associate, The Public Theater, NYC

To be immersed in all aspects of the theater is an amazing experience. My semester at NTI helped me shape my dreams and discover my passion. It is a wonderful opportunity and I would recommend it for anyone who desires a career in the theater and performing arts.
Mark Teschner, NTI Fall ‘78
